NOW Burdock Root
Traditionally used as a diuretic, to induce sweating (Diaphoretic) or to help remove accumulated waste products via the kidneys, skin and mucous membranes. Detoxing and cleansing, which have been traditional health care modalities used in Eastern culture, are now gaining in popularity in North America. Burdock root can support several body systems involved in the detoxification process.
Burdock Root (Arctium lappa) is a biennial herb native to Europe and Asia. It is a popular herb in traditional folk medicine, and is still consumed in Japan as a vegetable called “gobo”. Burdock is listed in the German Commission “E” Monographs. The prickly heads of these plants (burrs) are noted for easily catching on to fur and clothing (being the inspiration for Velcro in the 1940’s). Burdock has historically been used to treat a wide variety of ailments, including arthritis, diabetes, hair loss, wrinkles, and inflammation. Possessing diuretic properties, Burdock can help detoxify the body via sweating and the passing of fluids through the uro-genital tract, and mucous membranes.
